I tried the 11+ for our 17 year old cat and he prefers the smaller bites of this one. Not sure why because he has a mouthful of teeth. The flavor could be part of the reason but despite being asked to rate the flavor I am NOT going to taste it. Doesn't really make sense that the one formulated for older cats would have bigger bites though. ‍♀️I rated it a 5 based on Midnight's preference and just the fact that he eats it..... cat owners will understand.. But I do think it is a little pricey.

Eats this one. I have a 10 year old flame point who is beyond fussy. I often lay out a Smorgasbord for him and he just walks away. But I have been trying to feed him healthier. He enjoys the Science Diet as much as anything I've fed him; more than the cans or those treats (in fact I sometimes fill those treat packets with the SD 7+ and he scarfs them up). I feel better knowing there is a product that is healthier that he enjoys.

One of our cats is the ultimate picky eater, I've gone through hundreds upon hundreds of dollars in treats, food, wet food, and so on throughout the years. He turns his nose up at 99% of the things offered to him, including people food. All of our cats are over 7 and starting to slow down a bit, one of them had some kidney concerns, so I went looking for a low phosphorus food that even the picky eater would love. I settled on this brand and then ordered small bags of several flavors. All of the cats went crazy for the indoor one, and the oral care flavor. They liked this flavor just fine, and it has very small kibbles which are good for any cats with dental issues or sensitive mouths. For the first day or so we thought this would be "the one", but in the end the cats really preferred the indoor variety. The oral care flavor has huge kibbles, which our oldest cat had trouble with, and we settled on the indoor one with the smaller pyramid kibbles. Everyone is happier, healthier, and has shinier coats after only a few weeks on Hills food. And to make it even better, this and the indoor formula are both slightly cheaper than the blue basics limited ingredient food we had to feed before. Absolute win all around.

I used this product for a couple years in a house with both an older male cat and young cats. After researching cat food online, I tried using Nutro senior in 2 different flavors for several months (in addition to continuing to offer this.) They seemed to enjoy the change, but after several months one of my young males began peeing constantly, everywhere, with blood. The vet diagnosed struvite/ triphosphate crystals in the urine & sent us home with the (expensive) prescription diets only available at the vet (from a few brands.) After researching I discovered there were OTC brands for this and went with Science Diet to supplement what we were given, & the symptoms resolved. I used the urinary formula and, after the Nutro ran out, also offered the original Science Diet (active longevity) I had before & we have had no issues since then. I've seen him eating both diets. I've concluded that this product (active longevity) does maintain the proper urinary pH to prevent the formation of the most common crystals seen in cats.

I worked as a veterinary tech. when Science Diet was veterinary prescribed only (1990's). I recall the veterinarian and customers raving about this pet food. I became a pet nutritionist through my employment with this veterinarian. I began using Science Diet food for my dogs and cats then, about 21 years ago and have fed nothing else to my pets since. I have had very healthy and happy pets! Many , many other pet foods have come on the market. Though I have researched a lot of them I see no improvements in nutrition that warrant changing from a tried and true product. My current three cats, two ten year old and one 14 year old happy campers, seem to agree!
