Do you want SHINY kitties?!!This is the only food I have fed my kitties, from the time the very moment the litter could start eating solids. The kittens LOVED the kitten formulation and it gave them everything they needed nutritionally once they could handle the crunch. This is the same food my vet keeps on the shelf in the office, but too big of a mark-up, so I buy it here. I buy the 16-pound bag because it is the best deal. It goes on sale once in awhile, too, so check back often. In my opinion, it is the best dry cat food on the market. It even smells good! With the additional of wet food in their adult diets (I have not tried the Hill's Science Diet canned food yet, but I am sure they'd love it, too), my cats are truly happy with what they are eating! Two years later, my cats are still happy with Hill's Science Diet. Of course, they have graduated up to the 1-6 year old formulation. They are constantly eating it (but not too much, they are trim and not fat kitties, lol). It does cost a bit more, but it is every cent worth it. For two adult cats, I buy the 16-pound bag every 1.5 months to 2 months. And back to the shiny! My cats coats are shiny, they have good healthy poops and they have lots of energy. I don't think you can go wrong with this purchase, it's much better than the low-quality foods they are selling at the store.

This catfood may get a bad rap from many hipsters. "Oh, they pay the vets to use the food..." "Oh, it's not healthy like raw foods..." "Oh it's all dry kibble..." "Oh, it's junk food that's only one step above the other crud you get at the pet store..."Um, people, it's good food. Period. Fur is healthier with this than with any other kibble you'd find at any regular pet store. The stools are also healthier. The cats are more energetic. They also LIKE to eat this food unlike some more expensive raw kibble. And best of all, since it's dry, it has a long shelf life so I don't have to worry about bacteria growing all over it like with raw food. Oh, did I mention, there are no really good raw kibble brands out there. Yeah, you heard me right. They may seem good, but they will change the composition on you frequently. Hill's Science has kept their products consistent for years, and will never change it unless they release a new kind of food. Simple as that. They are trustworthy, and you know what you're getting. I'd say the only other thing better than this is to make your own food for the cats... But do you really want to spend over half an hour a day doing that for your cats on top of what you cook everyday for yourselves? Admit it. You barely ever want to do it for yourself to begin with.Oh, and besides, if they really do pay vets exorbitant amounts of money to stock the food in the clinics, do you really think EVERY vet would not have the scruples to carry anything different instead of carrying food that isn't good for the animals? Think about it.

I have been using Science Diet since the 80's. Yes, this company has been making animal food since the 1930's. I had one cat live to be 24 using the standard adult stuff. He was over 20lbs and not fat at all but just a real big male. I switched him to the older cat formula at 15 years. He was never sick a day in his life. My current cat started out not able to keep weight on as a kitten. Took him to vets, did holistic junk and tried blended meat etc. Nothing worked so went to this Science Diet. It stabilized him really quickly. He is now a big Maine Coon at 22lbs and 7 years old. I don't have experience with all the specialty ones. You can compare all the nutrients and additives you want but the bottom line is the proof of the pudding is in the eating. I have 31 years of healthy cats and that talks volumes over lab test statistics junk.

My Ginger Pie, eats this original formula. She gets 1/3 cup roughly 2 times a day or less if she is not really finishing. Crumbs go outside for birds (she is an indoor only cat)My other Cat, Hogan, prefers the SD hairball formula.Neither will touch the other's food. I don't know why this should be. She does seem to have more hairballs than he does. I brush them both.I've used SD for many years, for many cats while doing rescue, unless a cat has a special need and something else is called for. I had one cat live to be 26. I have happy, healthy cats. I like that this does not have too much protein, and we don't seem to have too many kidney and renal issues on it. They can only metabolize so much, as they are domesticated.I tend to feel many people overthink the cat food, and underthink enrichment and spending time with the cats, entertaining them, brushing, etc. Play with your cats.

He loves it but he wants to replace the look alike on the bag. He says he has a way better more natural necklace. My vet recommends boy cats use science diet to protect them from urinary issues as they age. I can’t say it’s true because my 17 year old boy ate ‘garbage’ (generic, meow mix, Purina) food for his first 9 years before the switch and then he has been eating soft food for the last 3 years. But it’s worth a try to keep the new boys healthy and they like it. My senior 18 girl loves their kitten mix. It’s her treat.
